As with the other Canary Islands, La Gomera has managed to keep their status of lower import tax and VAT rates - duty free, so if you are looking to buy tobacco, wines, spirits, perfumes and maybe some electrical goods, look no further as they are much cheaper here than in other EU countries! But please remember unlike other European Union Countries, there is a strict limit to the amount that you are allowed to export out of Gran Canaria into the UK and other EU countries!

The Limits are: 1 litre of spirits, 2 litres of wine and 200 cigarettes, 250 gm tobacco or 50 cigars.

There are a good number of shops within the village itself and many more in the capital of San Sebastian, or Valle Gran Rey. San Sebastian holds a small market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, located next to the Hyper Trebol supermarket, with excellent quality, local food goods at the lower level and arts and crafts up on the street level.
